White balance refers to the manner in which digital cameras may balance the white levels of photographs in order to manipulate their color temperatures. Often adjusted in order to work with a photograph's light source, white balance may entirely shift the mood of an image. The above image was taken at a white balance of roughly 4000K, and the images below were taken at white balances of 3000K and 7200K, respectively.
Tips
Under clear blue skies and in cool light, a higher white balance setting allows for warmer, truer-to-life colors.

Indoors and under warm light, a lower white balance setting allows for cooler, truer-to-life colors.

Like ISO, white balance is typically adjusted by opening a menu within a DSLR camera's settings, and it is normally safe to leave this setting on automatic.
